A letter sent by the city of Cumberland to residents delinquent with property taxes had many alarmed- however Mayor Brian Grim has since diffused the situation.  Language in the letter indicated that home owners even a few months late could be subject to having their homes placed on the tax sale list. The city has operated for years with the policy of not including deliquent tax payers on the list until they fall three years behind. Mayor Grim on Tuesday night said the letter was drafted and sent out without approval from the elected council. He apologized for what he called a miscommunication and said that the city will not practice scare tactics. The city currently is owed $2.6 million in back taxes.
