CUMBERLAND — The City Council will hold another special public work session to focus on setting goals and strategies Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Windsor Hall.

“We intend to formalize those goals recommended by council and citizens into one list of goals for implementation according to a timeline that will also be set by the council,” said Mayor Brian Grim.

Council members will discuss goals that were created at the Jan. 25 meeting for economic development, finances, utilities and services, neighborhoods and blight, technology and others.

The discussion will include consolidating proposals with county government in order to accomplish goals.

“Among those goals are likely to be some that require cooperation with the county and the state,” said Grim. “We recognize that such goals will require communication with the county and the state and as such, we have set those aside for specific discussion.”

“We need to schedule a meeting with county and city. I don’t think it would hurt to get together to break bread and talk about common issues,” said Councilman Butch Hendershot in the previous meeting.

Other items on the agenda include enabling legislation concerning home sprinkler incentives.

“Implementation of home sprinkler incentives have not yet been established but city staff is actively engaged in reviewing policies in other jurisdictions that permit tax incentives,” said Grim. “Once staff finds a suitable option, it will be presented to the council at a public meeting for review.”

A public comment section is scheduled at the end of the meeting. Anyone interested in speaking during this time is asked to sign up; to provide name and address for the record; and speak for two to three minutes.
